Outdoor Experience Capability

Capability Aims

Students build their knowledge and skills through outdoor experiences, developing a level of comfort and connection to natural environments.

Students learn about the importance of nature in promoting positive wellbeing.

Skills, Wellbeing, Connection

Skills

Develop technical outdoor skills to ensure safety, competence and a level of comfort in the outdoors.

Wellbeing

Understand how the outdoor environment impacts on physical, psychological and social wellbeing.

Explore and discuss strategies to promote positive wellbeing.

Connection

Acknowledge and develop connections to the outdoor environment through immersion in sensory experiences and understand how this varies between individuals and places.

Achievement Standards – by the end of Level 10.

Skills

Students develop technical skills allowing them to engage in outdoor activities safely.

Students demonstrate an increase in their level of comfort and engagement in the outdoors.

Wellbeing

Students identify and explain the link between different ways of experiencing the outdoors and a person’s physical, psychological and social wellbeing.

Connection

Students describe their own connection to the outdoor environment and how this may vary between places.

Students demonstrate an understanding of how other people’s connections to outdoor environments vary.

Students attending have easy access to some of Victoria's best alpine country - the Bogong High Plains, for program activities.
